DBSC Youth Week 2024
Welcome to Youth Week 2024! We look forward to welcoming sailors working on their RYA stages 1-4, Seamanship, Racing and all having fun.
The plan
Sailors should be ready for 10am on day one to meet their instructors and group and we will join together for a welcome chat. On all other days, unless otherwise advised by their instructor, sailors should be ready to go on the water for 10am and collection is around 4pm. Your young person will require the appropriate sailing kit or a spare set of warm clothes and full waterproofs (full kit list below), and hats and suncream are advised to cover all weather eventualities. Water reflects UV light and enhances the effect of the sun; even in hazy or overcast weather sunscreen is important in protecting the skin. If your child does not have their own buoyancy aid, this can be provided and can be returned at the end of the week.
All sailors require club membership and if temporary membership for Youth Week only is required, this should be purchased prior to booking. Likewise all sailors require a logbook and any new copies or replacements are available from the online shop.
Sustenance
Soup and bread will be available for all at lunchtime but sailors must also bring a packed lunch to keep them well fuelled and with access to snacks if necessary. Lunches should be nut free for the safety of all. Water bottles can be refilled for youngsters in the Galley. The Tuck shop will open at the end of the day and we would ask you to set up a tab and advise of any limits on the first day. Payment can be made at the end of the week, preferably by card please.
The Galley crew and Cake Bakers are an integral and valued part of the Youth Week team and we would ask that if you would like to be part of shore crew that can help with a pot of soup, lunchtime service or tuck shop duties etc that you email us at youthweek@dalgetybaysc.org and sign up on our website duty roster. Cake and home baking is always extremely popular and all donations are very welcomed (nut free please). We very much rely and appreciate your support, thank you in advance.
We are really excited to have your young person with us for Youth Week 2024 and are happy to discuss any aspect or query that you may have. Please contact us at youthweek@dalgetybaysc.org. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Kit list
these will be required every day:
- Waterproof jacket and trousers
- Old trousers or jogging bottoms (not jeans)
- Three warm layers eg sweatshirts, fleeces
- Old trainers or dinghy boots (not wellies)
- Warm socks
- Woolly hat and/or sun hat
- Towel
- Additional warm layers for lunch
- Complete change of clothes
- Large bag suitable for wet clothes
- A drysuit or wetsuit may replace joggers and jumpers.
It is much colder on the water than it is on land and being warm is not just for safety but for your sailor's enjoyment. We have recently started DBSC Kit Exchange on Facebook to encourage the rehoming of outgrown kit by our Juniors and Youths as well as for other members. Please feel free to join the group.
